Our psychologists who work with our child and teenager clients have specific skills, training and interests in working with a range of psychological issues seen in young people aged 3 to 18.

Our special interests working with teenagers include:

  • Anxiety (excessive worrying, social anxiety)

  • Depression (low mood, motivation difficulties)

  • Adjustment difficulties (life transitions and future direction)

  • School issues (bullying, academic concerns)

  • Self-esteem & confidence

  • Social and family relationship difficulties

  • Skill building (social, communication and assertiveness skills)

  • Stress, anger and coping strategies

  • Autism (ASD)

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD)

  • Disabilities

  • Many other issues

Psychological therapy with children and teenagers follows evidence-based treatment frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for anxiety and depression. Sessions may commonly include reflecting on patterns operating in their current world, strengths-based discussions, problem-solving uncertainties and working towards enacting change where desired, and may involve practice of social, communication, assertiveness and coping skills relevant to the young person’s concerns.

GOALS Psychology has a range of resources available when working with child and teenager clients which your psychologist may recommend for parents/caregivers to practice between sessions to support progress towards your child’s specific therapy goals.
